about art therapy
Art therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses art-making processes to help individuals explore their emotions, express their feelings, and gain greater insight into themselves. Art therapy is grounded in the belief that creative expression supports growth and healing while giving individuals a safe and supportive space to express their innermost selves. It helps individuals make sense of difficult life circumstances and find meaningful connections in their lives.
An art therapist encourages exploration and positive self-expression by engaging with the individual through the artwork they have created. This allows them to gain self-awareness, understand their emotions, and move forward more empowered and productively.
Clinical studies have shown that art therapy can be a powerful healing tool for those experiencing trauma, depression, stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. It can also be used to help victims of violence, abuse, and neglect address their experiences in a safe and non-threatening way. Overall, art therapy has been found to be an effective and meaningful way for individuals to gain greater insight into their emotions and explore self-expression.
